A little about Denise...

I am a certified yoga teacher (E-RYT 200, RYT 500), providing group and private classes in Waleska and Canton, Georgia as well as other locations around Cherokee County.

I have completed over 500 hours of Yoga Alliance approved yoga teacher training and have taught over 1,800 hours of classes over the past 6 years. 

I teach a variety of formats including Gentle flow, Vinyasa, Yin,  Restorative and Chair Yoga. In 2023, I received a mat Pilates certification and added Yoga-Pilates fusion to my offerings.

 

In addition to Yoga and Pilates, I'm also certified to teach Parkinson's movement classes and Active Older Adults Strength & Cardio. I teach both of these classes at the YMCA and I love it!

My Yoga journey began over 20 years ago when I was working in the Washington DC area and took my first yoga class at the National Institutes of Health. It was an amazing stress reliever, and I knew right away that this was something I wanted to continue. However, at this point in my life, I did not make yoga (or myself) enough of a priority. I often let work and other life events get in the way and my practice was not very consistent. And it showed. My health, both physical and mental, was suffering greatly. I found myself riddled with stress, anxiety, depression, headaches, back pain, and decreased energy. 

I rekindled my yoga practice after moving to Georgia in 2004 when I began practicing with Jessie Fletcher at Divine Nature in Canton. I found myself doing things I never imagined I was capable of (physically), and it was incredibly empowering! I started to deepen my practice, learning more about all 8 limbs of yoga (no, it's not just about the poses!) and was completely hooked.

In 2017, I completed my first Yoga Teacher Training program (in person) with Jessie and Shawn Fletcher of Dorje Yoga and began teaching soon after receiving my 200 hour certificate. I then went on to complete an additional 300 hours of training, becoming a 500 hour certified teacher in 2019. Although my training was quite extensive, I've found that the more I teach, the more I continue to learn. There is always more knowledge and wisdom to be gained, so I strive to never stop learning. I continually seek out and complete continuing education courses to deepen my knowledge and understanding of yoga. 

I love helping students relieve stress, improve physical and mental health, and find inner peace through yoga. My classes are appropriate for all levels, from beginners to advanced students. I tailor my private classes to meet each individual student’s needs.

I live with my husband and our dogs (who often accompany me on the mat during my home yoga practice). :)
